Abstract:  The recent development in photonic integration towards data communications has given a new life to the development of optical interconnection networks. From integrating multiple optical functions related to switches and transceivers, to co-packaging of opto-electronics with electronic integrated circuits, the drastic footprint reduction is enabling the design of optical systems onto a single die, a strong asset for optical switching networks. This seminar will present recent experimental demonstrations that illustrate the impact of photonic integration has on the design and implementation of optical interconnection networks towards modern computing platforms.

Biography:  Dr. Odile Liboiron-Ladouceur is an Assistant Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at McGill University, and Canada Research Chair in Photonic Interconnects. She obtained the B. Eng. degree in electrical engineering from McGill University, Montréal, Canada, in 1995 and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Columbia University, New York, in 2003 and 2007, respectively. Prior to her graduate studies, she worked two years as a test engineer at Texas Instruments in Dallas from 2000 to 2002, and one year as an applications engineer at Teradyne in Boston from 1999 to 2000. She has authored or co-authored more than 26 papers in peer-review journals, and 64 papers in conference proceedings.  She is a senior IEEE member and associate editor of the IEEE Photonics Technology Letter and the IEEE Photonics Society Montreal Chapter Chair. She is a co-investigator of the Silicon Electronic-Photonic Integrated Circuits (Si-EPIC) Program, providing advanced training to students across Canada in Silicon-based photonic integration. Her research interests include interconnects for data communications, photonic integrated circuits, and optical systems.
