Silicon Photonics Toolbox for Tb/s-Class Transceivers Slides

Abstract:  As many applications emerge with the need for providing System-In-Package with optical I/Os, Silicon photonics technology shows great assets over other optical technologies as it can fully benefit from the electronic CMOS drivers and 3D CMOS integration tools (chip to wafer flip-chipping and bonding techniques, and Silicon interposers). The talk will review how the full Silicon photonics toolbox (including photonic Si-Ge and III-V devices and 3D integration processes) scales with denser integration requirements.

Key words:  III-V on Silicon integrated lasers, modulators, Photo-detectors, 3D integration processes, Through Silicon Via, copper pillars, copper-copper direct bonding.

Biography:  Sylvie Menezo is the Head of “Integrated Photonics Activities” at CEA-Leti, a French research-and-technology organization. Within her team several collaborative or bilateral industrial projects are running, focusing on Technology development and transfer, and on the Development of Silicon photonics-based solutions for optical interconnects.

Sylvie Menezo has 18 years of professional experience in integrated and fiber optics for analog-sensing and digital-communications (Ph.D at Centre National d’Etudes des Telecommunications now Orange labs, Alcatel CRC where she completed the transfer of a laser pump to Alcatel Optronics fab lines, CGG Veritas where she set up and ran the Optical lab for 10 years, and CEA-Leti). Sylvie Menezo is the Director of the “IRT-Nanoelec Photonics Program’’ that brings together, under a single roof, expertise and equipment addressing the entire photonics-on-silicon value chain. Mentor Graphics, ST Microelectronics, CNRS and CEA-Leti are core members of this consortium.
